Your story with your second child is very similar to mine. My son is only 5 and 1/2 months old, but was found to have MPSI at around 3 weeks old. He also had blood in his stool, and it was still there even after removing milk and soy from my diet. My pediatrician was no help, she didn't seem to worried that there was blood in his stool since he was gaing weight. I'm also from Montreal so you know how hard it is to find another doctor. Anyways, I ended up going on a TED and finally the blood went away. I have been slowly introducing food into my diet, but once in a while some food cause the blood to come back. Your wife is truly inspirational, reading about the sacrifices she went through makes me believe that I can do it too. Seeing that your children got over the allergies makes me feel that it is also possible for my son!

Thank you for sharing your story. We switched docs after we'd stumbled upon nutramigen and the new doc didn't really know anything about my son's colic. After trying to give him regular cow's milk at one-year-old, we realized there was a problem with milk and put him on lactose-free milk. He did fine for about a year until we tried putting lactase drops into super-cremay, super-fresh farm milk. After this, he stopped being able to tolerate milk, cheese, etc, anything at all. So we had him on the no milk, no soy diet for 3 months until the very visible blood and mucus in his stool disappeared. He got a lot of blood from dairy and a lot of mucus from soy. Nutramigen was the only formula that worked for him in the beginning, though, fyi.

Nutramigen worked for us. But we have a weird case. The recent specialists I have been seeing have been telling me that exclusive breastfeeding and late introduction of nuts to the child won't prevent allergies. However, they did say that research is indicating that it can help delay the onset of the allergy. Which for myself, is reason enough. But I do know that this opinion is highly debated.

Having several family members with severe peanut and other nut allergies, this has been of concern to me from day one. He suffered from a serious reaction . . .including a fever reaching 103 and moderate amounts of blood in his stool during a 6 - 12 hour time interval after the injection. Yes, we knew he was MSPI at the time. I was not prepared with information about this vaccine when I went to his 2 month appointment, as it was not offered/part of the vacine schedule with my older daughter. I should have declined until I personally completed some research. . . but followed the pediatrician's recommendations. Due to his reaction, a report was drafted to the CDC and he did not receive the second dose. I feel, as many parents feel, you must be diligent and question everything-and everyone-to ensure the safety of your child.

My son was given the rotavirus vacination at two months of age.
